Day Trip to Hyères

Hyères is one of the easiest and most rewarding day trips from Toulon. The two cities are close enough that you can travel between them without turning the journey into the main event, yet Hyères feels distinctly different once you arrive.

The historic centre climbs uphill through narrow streets towards the remains of the old castle. Lower down, palm trees and elegant architecture hint at the town’s long history as a Mediterranean resort.

Old town or coast?

If you only have one day, decide how much you want to combine. The medieval centre deserves time for wandering, cafés and viewpoints, while the wider Hyères area also includes beaches and the Giens peninsula.

Trying to see the old town, every beach and an island in one day will turn a relaxed excursion into a race.

Easy from Toulon

Train connections make Hyères particularly useful for travellers without a car, although local transport may be needed if you continue towards the coast. Driving gives you more flexibility for the peninsula and beaches.

I would choose Hyères when you want a day trip that combines history with a lighter resort atmosphere. Toulon feels like a working port city; Hyères introduces another side of the Var, with old stone streets, villas, palms and the Mediterranean always close by.
