If you want a beach without leaving Toulon, Mourillon is the obvious place to start. The Plages du Mourillon form a series of sheltered beaches east of the city centre, backed by green spaces and places to eat and drink.
What I like about Mourillon is how easily it fits into an ordinary city day. You do not need to turn the visit into a complicated excursion. Spend the morning sightseeing, head to the coast after lunch and you can be swimming in the Mediterranean surprisingly quickly.
More than one beach
The Mourillon waterfront is divided into several beach areas rather than one enormous stretch of sand. This gives the coastline a relaxed feel and makes it easy to walk around until you find the spot that suits you.
Families appreciate the sheltered setting and nearby facilities, while the surrounding parks provide space when you want a break from the beach itself.
Stay for the evening
I would not rush back into central Toulon as soon as you finish swimming. Mourillon is also an enjoyable area for an evening walk, a drink or dinner close to the sea.
In summer the beaches can naturally become busy, so arriving earlier helps. Outside the hottest months, Mourillon is still worth visiting simply for the coastline and Mediterranean atmosphere. It is one of the places that makes Toulon feel like both a working city and a seaside destination.
