Toulon Without a Car

You can enjoy Toulon without renting a car, particularly if your trip focuses on the city itself. The railway station is close to the centre, many major sights are walkable and local buses and boats extend your reach towards the coast.

For a short city break, avoiding a car can actually make the visit simpler. You do not need to think about parking every time you move between the Old Town and harbour.

Walk the centre

The railway station, Old Town, Cours Lafayette and waterfront are close enough to explore largely on foot. Comfortable shoes are more useful than complicated transport planning here.

Use local transport for the coast

Mourillon and other areas outside the immediate centre are accessible using local public transport. Maritime services can also turn an ordinary journey across the harbour into part of the sightseeing.

The cable car provides access towards Mont Faron when operating, giving car-free visitors one of the city’s best viewpoints.

Day trips by train

Toulon’s railway connections make several coastal destinations possible without driving. This is particularly useful if you want Toulon as a base rather than a single overnight stop.

Routes and timetables change, so check current local information during your stay. But unless your plans involve remote beaches or extensive countryside exploration, a car is an option in Toulon rather than a necessity.
