Porquerolles from Toulon

Porquerolles is the kind of Mediterranean island that can justify building an entire day around it. Part of the Îles d’Hyères, it combines clear water, beaches, woodland and trails in a landscape that feels surprisingly removed from the cities of the Var coast.

From Toulon, the journey normally involves reaching a ferry departure point and continuing by boat. Services and departure locations vary seasonally, so this is a trip to plan rather than improvise.

Explore beyond the harbour

Once on the island, walking and cycling are natural ways to get around. Bikes are particularly popular because they allow you to reach more beaches and viewpoints without needing motorised transport.

Do not expect to see everything. Pick part of the island, allow time for swimming or a long lunch and remember that the return boat has a schedule.

Go prepared

Summer brings the greatest demand, so transport and bike availability deserve advance thought. Bring water, sun protection and suitable footwear if you plan to explore the trails.

Porquerolles works beautifully as a contrast to Toulon. After the naval harbour and urban streets, a day of beaches, bicycles and pine-scented paths feels like a completely different holiday – even though you are still exploring the same corner of southern France.
