Mourillon is often mentioned because of its beaches, but the neighbourhood deserves attention in its own right. East of central Toulon, it has the feel of a smaller seaside community attached to the larger city.
Local shops, restaurants and residential streets sit close to the Mediterranean, making Mourillon an enjoyable place to spend several hours even if swimming is not part of your plans.
Beach life and neighbourhood life
The Plages du Mourillon are naturally the biggest attraction, particularly in summer. But walk away from the immediate waterfront and the atmosphere becomes more local.
This is one reason I would consider Mourillon when choosing where to stay. You can have the coast close by while remaining within easy reach of central Toulon.
Come later in the day
Mourillon works particularly well in the late afternoon and evening. Spend time at the beach, explore the surrounding streets and then stay for dinner rather than heading straight back to the Old Town.
For a short visit, central Toulon is more convenient for major sights. For a longer stay, however, Mourillon shows why Toulon can work as a Mediterranean holiday destination rather than simply a port city. The ability to move between urban life and the beach is one of the city’s strongest advantages.
